Kevin 此段含有哲理。
雨果将外表美和心灵美区分得这么极端,产生的对比效果确实很强烈。去谒“先贤祠”时,我曾在他墓前站了很久,直到同游的一帮浙美和四川美院的朋友们来催了:“光脱脱的有什么好看的,大家都在前边雕塑那儿等你呢!” 可是我仍然在想,怎么我看到过的人,凡是心灵美的,外表也绝不会差呀? 至今我还是在生活中寻找“卡西莫多”的例子。
David,
You are so deep! The other day I was telling a friend who happens to be a marriage pusher. I said to him "I will be eventually an old man in my dying bed, watching through the window and staring at the last leaf on the tree branch dangling in the wind, and wishing it will not fall off." He said "That's from Maupasant."
以后我可要千万小心了,不说明出处,可能会涉及版权问题。;-)
恕我疏忽,我才知道你是搞艺术出身的,希望有机会和你合作。

Wenjer 和 Betty,
Kevin
Kevin,

Hi, Betty and all,
Thank you for asking. You are way ahead of the schedule of my slow-reponding team. I had 7 new source files for the 2nd round of SCH localization. But I just found last week that they turned out to be the wrong files sent to us. Those source files I received had realdy been translated by us in the 1st round. There was only one source file (2522 words) correct. I assigned it to our new-kid-on-the-block, Yueyin, for SCH translation.
Right now, Shang is the next translator in line. I do not see anyone else after Shang, even though I made a call a week ago. I noticed my team members are still recovering from the Kevin-fatigue syndrom. Since I am still waiting for the correct new source files to be sent to me, I will let everyone take their needed rest before launching my next round of motivation champion. I might have to make a door-to-door sales trip, or you can call it a door-to-door guilt trip.
Kevin

Thank you for bringing up the TCH localization request! Well, I did not forget you and other TCH readers. At this moment, I am tryting to convert Wenjer into a SCH reader, hopfully I will be successful.
I proposed to start with the SCH localization, mainly because there are more SCH members and users here to read SCH and help with the SCH localization. We are taking SCH as a trial version, and hope it will be successful. Then, I will definately push for TCH version. Right now, I have to push hard to get the SCH localization moving forward. Can you imagine what I will be like if the TCH localization is also undertaking at the same time?
For some strange reason, I do not see many translators from Hong Kong and Taiwan come here and explore this wonderful site and networking with the wonderful people here. I wonder if there are not many translators in Taiwan and Hong Kong? Or they think we are not user-friendly to the translators from Taiwan and Hong Kong? I hope my Hong Kong Pal Angus Woo can give me some inputs.
A couple days ago, I had chance to talk about the Chinese sector with Henry, the founder of this website. He happily informed me that the Chinese sector has been the fastest growing sector at ProZ.com. He is very pleased with the development of our sector. He thanked you all for for your good work and participation here.
It is my dream to have both SCH and TCH interfaces running at this website. Considering the manpower and resources, we just have to do the SCH version for now.
Kevin
Hi Kevin and everyone. I am sorry I was rather busy for the last few days. Apologize.
Well, I am not the right person to answer this question on behalf of Taiwanese translators. I think Wenjer is a more reliable source in this regard.
On the other hand, I might say a few words on behalf of our peers from HK. Although I am not sure exactly why there aren't many HK translator here, my guess would be that since HK is a relatively small place (unless you are comparing it with a country like Haiti), with population of just over 6 million and a truly bilingual society - pretty much like Singapore, a sort of melting pot, blending the West and the Orient, so it's not a surprise to find that many people don't need the help of a translator. Therefore, comparatively speaking, there are fewer translators in HK than in places like China and Taiwan. Another reason could be money, you see, this is a very expensive city. The average monthly income of a junior bank teller would be around USD1000-1500 which is not considered by many as decent. I leave the rest to your imagination lest some people might be infuriated.
Another thing could be that there aren’t many Cantonese projects here, much less than what a local translation agency could offer. The rest is again another session for your imagination to work its wonders.
Hope I have answered Kevin's questions. Weighty ones. | | | Kevin Yang Local time: 18:26 Member (2003) English to Chinese + ... You are the most qualified person in HK I want to hear from. | Oct 24, 2006 |

Hello, Angus
So wonderful to hear from you and read your inputs. I felt so relieved after reading your post, because none of the possibilities you listed had to do with me being here.
When I suggested to hear from you, I meant to hear from the voices of Hong Kong, and you are the most qualified person I want to hear from. Thank you for the information!
I am a bit surprised to learn that there are not many translators in Hong Kong. The living cost is so high there, it must be tough to make a living by doing translation only.
Please let us or me know if you have any suggestions to make this website more appeal to the translators in Hong Kong.

Under User Info (用户信息), I suggest translating logout as 退出 or 退出登录, as 注销 has been inaccurately used throughout the IT translation world. According to dictionary explanation, 注销 means:
撤消;消除;使…作废, which apparently not the right word to use for logout.

我忘记了这里大多数同志看不到中文版,那就只能凭团队有限几位成员的眼睛找问题喽。Suggestion 可以翻译成建议;opinion 观点,看法。是没有负面意味的。不过"意见"倒是有些负面的含义。
