Thank you, Lesley, for helping! Oct 22, 2006

Lesley McLachlan wrote:

I will try to find out how 'pidgin' is translated into Chinese for these three Melanesian Pidgin languages Tok Pisin (Papua New Guinea), Bislama (Vanuatu) and Pijin (Solomon Islands), just for comparison. Also Torres Strait Creole.

Thank you, Lesley, for helping! I appreciate it.

If I am correct, I think "pidgin" is only referring to a type of language that mixes its native language with the foreign words, then became a new language that is neither the original native language, nor the language it brrows the words from. This can happen to any language and at anywhere.

Couldn't agree more, on both counts. Oct 22, 2006

I don't know if Microsoft sets the standard, but these sound like perfect translations.

Mr. LIU wrote:

Since Microsoft has conquered almost all the OS world, it would be as well for us to be its subjects and obey its laws. In the Windows English version, the Chinese language is rendered as Chinese(Hong Kong S.A.R.), Chinese(Macau S.A.R.), Chinese(PRC), Chinese(Singapore), and Chinese(Taiwan), while in the Chinese(S) version, 中文(澳门特别行政区),中文(台湾),中文(香港特别行政区),中文(新加坡),and 中文(中国).
A suggestion:
It might be helpful to open the localized version to users, so everyone could do her/his bit and the burden is relieved.

强烈推荐Redred/彤彤加入汉化大队! Oct 22, 2006

Redred:

赶快报名吧!

Kevin:

本人这次实在没时间参加第二轮的翻译(不过可以考虑在后期承担一些审稿工作)。反正这次活儿不多,你可以将部分稿件分派给年轻人,让他/她们有个锻炼的机会。

等繁体版动工,若人手不够的话,我再报名。

redred wrote:

论坛里99.99%的人打心底里支持Chinese(PRC)中文(中国),Chinese(Hong Kong S.A.R.)中文(中国香港),Chinese(Taiwan)中文(中国台湾)。

我们完全是一个中国。不要有所顾虑,没人能够垄断我们的活儿,阻止你在PROZ上揽活。

Betty: Thank you for the understanding and continuous contribution! The system is setup in a way that I am the only one who is authorized to do the final editing to the online translation files. Your way of reporting the errors by posting them here works very well. I am here asking other team members to do the same. Please do not stop or think it is all done, or you have done your portion of the contribution. We are not there yet. We have not fulfilled our commitment as long as the SCH version is not released. Please take pledge again and get ready for the 2nd round of translation. While waiting for your pledge, I have been translating online as much as I can. Yes, right now it seems everything fell on my shoulder. Well, I know you are there and will consider helping again. Yes, we have to get the SCH version up-runing first and proof we can do it with team effort and with the quality that stands for any challenges, before we can even consider to start the TCH version.

这哥们信手拈来,便妙趣横生。 我就说是个绝顶的小生么。 想不到唱旦角也行。 看来这里这群真正的花旦们还得由你来领唱。

我们这儿都十点多钟了,他波士顿那头就是半夜一点多钟啦,再唱下去我们这位小生兼花旦要晕倒了。留着等他明天开场锣鼓吧。

redred,
