Dear Lisa,
We were happy to help with your child BX’s special education matter. OCRA provides free legal and advocacy services to Far Northern Regional Center clients. With your permission, Lee Xiong of Far Northern is included on this email.
You called us because BX (age 14) does not have special education transportation. You are concerned that he is not safe walking home from the general education bus. So you have been driving him both ways.
We provided brief service. I sent an email to Monica Harris on October 5, 2022. Monica Harris is the Oroville Union High School District psychologist. I said in the email that you had concerns about BX’s safety. Monica agreed to call an IEP team meeting. Lee was able to be with you last Friday, October 14, at the meeting.
Lee told me the meeting went well. The team agreed that your family will provide morning transportation, and the school will provide door-to-door special education transportation from school to home in the afternoons. You only want this for the rest of this school year. Next year, BX’s sibling will also attend the high school, and they can walk home together from the general education bus stop.
We were happy to be able to assist with this and glad you have what you need for BX to be safe. OCRA works task-by-task. Our work is done at this time. We are closing our file now. Please call us any time we can be of help.
