I started out translating some 40 years ago as a generalist, so over the years I haven’t been expanding my fields but, quite the reverse, narrowing them. Nowadays, I only translate what I have specialized in and I enjoy.

I don't know that I've added new fields of expertise for a long time. I've recently started working much more in music, for example, but the first time I translated a press release for a record label was probably last century.
I recently did a translation about trapeze artists, which I had never done before, but I'm not sure that it's really a whole field in its own right? I'd bundle it in with show business and entertainment in general.

I have weeded out all fields that I'm not interested in, I no longer do any technical stuff, or corporate bla-bla.

Why would I want to add more?

Another bug? Jul 20, 2023

My memory is not what it used to be (age is to blame), but I would swear that I answered this Quick Poll this morning (20.07.2023) and yet it shows yesterday’s date. Am I mistaken?

Today in Europe, but still yesterday on the other side of the Atlantic, or wherever the server is located.

I believe I even started the bilingual creative writing before I became a translator. And that was in the past millennium.

Maybe time is needed to come up with some truly interesting polls? Aug 1, 2023

The polls are often fun but they can be repetitive, meaning that some of the replies posted are just as repetitive. I don't mind if they stall on one poll while taking the time to come up with something new and interesting.
