Yueyin,

Congratulations on your two new grandbabies - two more bundles of joy arriving in the year of the dragon! You and your wife as grandparents must be delighted.

Being healthy and happy is indeed foremost. Like I said to you a couple of weeks ago, you look great.

Steve,

Thank you for sharing the news with me. My son also told me the news yesterday. He and his colleagues are quite excited about their company's expansion in Austin.

You'd never know what would happen in 10 or 20 years. China may be so advanced that people no longer find it necessary to send their kids abroad. Besides, if everyone and his brother wanted to study abroad, IMO the host country would bound to find some way to raise the bar accordingly. Like Yueyin mentioned above, college tuitions are already getting to be ridiculously high as it is. In recent years, this has been a constant topic of discussion in the media.

You don't see a whole lot of Japanese kids studying in this country. The general consensus is that their higher education system and standard of living are basically on par with the United States.

~*~*~*~*

p.s. I'm not saying sending the next generation abroad to study is not a good idea. Honestly, I would do the same if I were in the same situation. However, IMO, it's going to be a very competitive landscape, both academically and financially (A few years ago, I heard rumors that there were so many students of Asian descent on the UC, Berkeley campus, that they had to put a quota on the Asian students admitted). So it's always good to be prepared, and not to have any big surprises.
