In my opinion, taking into account cultural circumstances is not only an option, but a must, in order to make a translation sound correct, professional and comprehensive in the target language.

I personally am bilingual german-spanish, and I have wondered more than once how something has been translated into german or spanish, literally correct but sounding strange....

Cultural translation comes into play whenever the language roots changes. It is simply not possible to translate only literally or logically from, for example, anglo-saxon languanges into latin based languanges.
