My career in Chinese now spans almost three decades!
I have lived, worked and studied abroad for 3 years in Taiwan and China. During that time, I lived and worked with native Chinese speakers and became bicultural and bilingual. I am fascinated by and very fluent in the cultural differences between American and Chinese culture. This has made me a very good linguist!
I have a very broad background in Chinese, having worked in business, education, and government. My language expertise is consequently versatile and well-rounded:
I have worked bilingually in business consulting, marketing, and commercial real estate. I sold Dale Carnegie business management courses in Taiwan, made bids for construction equipment for the Taipei subway system, and have provided language assistance for Sino-American real estate ventures in Washington, D.C. and Baltimore.
I taught Chinese and ESL in Maryland public schools for 15 years, earned a Masters Degree in Instructional Systems Design and have training and a special interest in Intercultural Communication and psychology.
Most recently, I have worked as a professional Chinese translator for the federal government, receiving the prestigious 2006 rating of 3/3 linguist (on the ILR scale, the government standard). The President, State Department, and Justice Department have all praised my timely, detailed translations. I am recognized for my translation of linguistically sophisticated material and my knack for translating the meaning behind the words.
A new area of Chinese language work that greatly interests me is that of the environment. I am looking to do more work in this area.
