hipodensyjne zmiany

Leiomyomas in abdominal computed tomography are seen as homogeneous, low-attenuation lesions, which grow into the lumen of the stomach, and the ulceration of the overlying mucosa, the same as in the case of GISTs, are seen on the lesions bigger than 20 mm.

The distribution of size for benign and malignant lesions. Attenuation is a feature of CT, and low attenuation means that a particular area is less intense than the surrounding.

Hypodense (less dense): If an abnormality is less dense than the reference structure, we would describe it as hypodense. In the image to the right the solid arrow points to an area that is hypodense relative to the adjacent gray and white matter.

X-rays are applied in a circular motion with detectors on the opposite side of the body. Body tissue slices (typically 1 cm) are mathematically reconstructed and displayed on a gray scale matrix. The density of the tissue is in proportion to the attenuation of the x-rays which pass through. Tissues like air and water have little attenuation and are displayed as low densities (dark), whereas bone has high attenuation and is displayed as high density (bright) on CT. Among pathologic conditions, high density lesions are often seen with freshly clotted blood, hyperemia and with the use of contrast. Low density lesions include edema and necrosis.
