German term

Schenkeldurckartig

German to English Medical Medical: Cardiology Rechtsschenkelblock
From a medical report about a patient with a congenital heart defect.

"Schenkeldruckartig deformierte Kammer komplett im Sinne eines Rechtsschenkelblocks, rRˊin den rechtspräkordialen Ableitungen."

I assume that "schenkeldruckartig" refers to the Rechtsschenkelblock, but how do you say that in English? "Chamber deformed by the bundle branch, completely consistent with a right bundle branch block"? As I am not sure about the nature of the "druck", I am not sure how to translate it.

Greatly appreciate your help, as always!

No, you can't The KudoZ system is quite "rigid" in this regard.
Bettina Grieser Johns (asker) Jul 19, 2022:
@Steffen Absolutely, but I can't divide the points - or can I?
Bettina Grieser Johns (asker) Jul 19, 2022:
@Steffen Much more elegant, thank you for explaining it so well and for the references. Don't you want to suggest this as an answer?
Steffen Walter Jul 19, 2022:
QRS complexes The "Kammerkomplexe" should be QRS complexes/intervals, and "deformiert" seems to be equivalent to "wide(ned)". See https://flexikon.doccheck.com/de/QRS-Komplex and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right_bundle_branch_block ---> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right_bundle_branch_block#/med...

Also, as much as your client wants a rather literal translation, you could easily condense the phrase and say "wide QRS complexes consistent with a right bundle branch block". Other solutions such as "wide QRS complexes indicative of a bundle branch block consistent with a right bundle branch block" would just be unnecessarily redundant/"doppelt gemoppelt".
Bettina Grieser Johns (asker) Jul 19, 2022:
@Steffen That had never occurred to me, but of course it makes perfect sense. So it would be "chamber complexes as deformed by a bundle branch block consistent with....". I know it's not very elegant, but the client does want a rather literal translation.
Steffen Walter Jul 18, 2022:
Schenkelblockartig This is a typo or (more likely) speech recognition/transcription error and should read "schenkelblockartig" in the first part, too. Likewise, "Kammer komplett" - another speech recognition error? - should be "Kammerkomplexe". Note that the use of solutions such as https://www.nuance.com/healthcare/provider-solutions/speech-... has become very common in the field.

See, for example,

https://www.fokus-ekg.de/inhalt-von-a-z/ventrikuläre-tachyar... ("Die QRS-Komplexe bei VT sind schenkelblockartig deformiert. Bei der Unterscheidung einer VT von einer supraventrikulären Tachykardie mit Schenkelblockierung ist die Kenntnis des EKG-Bildes eines "normalen" Rechts- und Linksschenkelblocks wichtig." and several other instances)

and

https://flexikon.doccheck.com/de/Ventrikuläre_Tachykardie ("Die Diagnose einer ventrikulären Tachykardie kann per EKG gestellt werden. Dabei zeigt sich eine regelmäßige Tachykardie (100 bis 250 /min). Typisch sind weiterhin breite, schenkelblockartig deformierte Kammerkomplexe (QRS-Dauer > 120 ms), die ohne Zusammenhang zur Vorhofaktion (AV-Dissoziation) in Erscheinung treten."
Bettina Grieser Johns (asker) Jul 18, 2022:
@Jakub Thanks, Jakub, but your answer is the translation of the second half of the sentence. What I need is a translation of "schenkeldruckartig" in the first half of the sentence.

German term (edited): schenkelblockartig deformierte Kammerkomplexe im Sinne eines Rechtsschenkelblocks
Selected

wide(ned) QRS complexes consistent with [indicative of] a right bundle branch block

See discussion - there are actually two speech recognition/transcription errors (schenkeldruckartig = schenkelblockartig; Kammer komplett = Kammerkomplexe, hence "schenkelblockartig deformierte Kammerkomplexe"). That said, Jakub has also done some of the groundwork to arrive at the final solution.

agree Steffen Walter : And it should read "schenkelblockartig" in the first part of the sentence, too. In addition, "Kammer komplett" should be "Kammerkomplexe" (eliminating "complete"), hence "schenkelblockartig deformierte Kammerkomplexe". See my discussion entry.

neutral Dr. Christopher Kronen : I agree with Steffen's points regarding"schenkeldruckartig" and "Kammer komplett". This should then read: "Schenkelblockartig deformierter Kammerkomplex." However. it should be a "right bundle branch block" and not "complete" according to the source text.
