English term

this side of normal

Non-PRO English Other General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters this side of normal
I'd get more sense out of that dog than I would with him, right? But you are just this side of normal. I'm struggling here, mate. Do you understand me?

Someone is trying to be an arbiter between fighting neighbor. The dog is for the other neighbor.

Thanks in advance,

So I suppose he means normal enough or something like that. Thanks.

@ Asker Usually, this sort of expression would mean "pretty close to something, on one particular side" — except that here, the 'particualr side' isn't explicit: the speaker just says "this", which suggests he maybe means "on the same side of normal as I am myself"; so in other words, "you're a bit more normal (in my way of looking at things) than the other guy"
