: Yes, but you need to add a sentence of explanation, because readers won't understand this. It's enclosed by sluice gates that are opened at low tide to release the water quickly and flush away the silt.

I see your point, but I wouldn't add explanation unless the client asked for it. I doubt a typical German reader would be able to describe a 'Sielhafen' in any detail, either.

THX Darin! At least to my understanding the section in the book is about integrated fish ladders in the gates/locks ('the sluice...') of a sluice port.
Same feature in the sluice of a little fishing port close to where I live (Greet*siel* - East Frisia).
