Discussion

Claire Culliford (asker) Oct 8, 2009:
Thanks I perhaps had the right meaning, but I do like 'duly represented'. Succinct and legal sounding. Thanks for that!
James A. Walsh Oct 8, 2009:
Yes, I think you're spot-on. Most google references I'm finding of this wording seem to be Argentine. I fully agree we would express it in this way. Perhaps, 'duly represented by...'
Claire Culliford (asker) Oct 8, 2009:
Additional phrases in document Sorry James. Here is some more context. The more I look at this paragraph, the more I become convinced that this is a case of Argentinian (wordiness) and perhaps in English we'd simply say something like 'represented by [name of legal representative] in these proceedings.

XXXXXXX, por derecho propio, con domicilio real in YYYYYYYY, constituyéndolo a los fines procesales conjuntamente con la letrada patrocinante ZZZZZZZZ Dra. XXXXXX [Address] y XXXXX, por derecho propio, con domicilio real in YYYYYYYY, constituyendo el legal conjuntamente con la letrada patrocinante Dra. XXXXX [Address], a V.S. dicen:

It was a pleasure, Claire :)
Peer comment(s):

agree Seth Phillips : Spot on. Thomas West shows that "Constituir domicilio legal" means "To establish an address for service of notice" (and I realize domicile ad litem is the Latin phrase for this)

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks for this. In the very formal language of the contract I think this fits most appropriately."
5 hrs

duly represented

This is how I would word it.
Example sentence:

..., duly represented in these proceedings by [name & address of legal representative]

13 hrs

electing address for service

with or c/o.

A different way of expressing a familiar concept.
Note from asker:
Thanks for this :-) I went with a slightly more formal equivalent, owing to the very formal nature of the document, but this will be very useful for future reference.

Thanks for this. In the end, I think there was definitely a relationship between this phrase and the addresses to be used for legal correspondence as they were different for each party and put in bold.
