French term

code SSA récepteur/emetteur

French to English Other IT (Information Technology) naming datafiles exchanged between application sub-systems
Code SSA récepteur: 4 caractères numériques - Code SSA du SSA récepteur (traitant le fichier)

Code SSA Emetteur: 4 caractères numériques - Code SSA du SSA source (générant le fichier)

Receiving SSA code / issuing SSA code?? - doesn't sound right

Discussion

Charlie Bavington Feb 9, 2006:
In fact, I wouldn't use it at all for obvious reasons (!), I'd just call 'em sub-systems, as my answer suggests :-)
Charlie Bavington Feb 9, 2006:
Still think you're probably right - presumably you have solid grounds from the full document for thinking it's sub-systems. I wouldn't use ASS without using the full term first, by the way.
Enza Longo (asker) Feb 9, 2006:
Charlie, I'm the one who translated SSA in the subject field I presumed this is what it was but I'm not at all sure now - the French heading for this paragraph is Nommage des fichiers de donnes changs entre SSA sous UNIX-Wintel
Enza Longo (asker) Feb 9, 2006:
Does SSA = ASS (Application sub-system) or am I completely off the mark?

note the position of the qualifier

I would think that 'sous systeme applicatif' is probably what SSA means here, given you've mentioned sub-systems in the subject area.

There is a company called SSA (software search america, I think - in any event, they used to do a package for name searching in databases which I used to use, but think they've expanded now into ERP generally) but I'm reasonable confident that this is completely irrelevant here :-)

Anyway, note that the qualifier goes with SSA, not the code.
So, I'd go with "receiving/sending sub-system code - sub-system code for the receiving/sending sub-system"

You may wish to consider "source" (or even "issuing") and "destination" subsystems to make it slightly more formal.

All of which, with the exception of the fact that you've left SSA in French, appears to agree entirely with your own interpretation :-)
