you probably can omit circulating since it is obvious that the blood is always circulating. the notion carried here by circulating is the one that Gilles pointed out.

: Not exactly. The "circulating blood" is distinguished from blood in the bone marrow, (which has not yet entered the circulation). That is the way the expression is usually meant.
