French term

sous forme d'ozacalque polyester

French to English Tech/Engineering Engineering (general) some kind of document format
Could it be "carbon copy", or tracing paper..? The term seems quite specific however. Google wasn't giving much away, in any case !

Context - from a specifications manual which lays down general prescriptions to suppliers of car components:

I'm not sure of the exact term, but here are a few pointers.

This kind of 'calque' is usually what is known colloquially as a 'blueprint' --- the type of process that used to be used to produce copies of large drawings produced an aniline blue image. More correctly, I believe it is called a 'dyeline print'

The 'oza' part makes me think it is referring to the Ozalid (R) process, one of the several systems for producing this kind of reproduction.

And the 'polyester' refers to the fact that for durability, it was produced, not on paper, but on polyester film. This suggests to me that this would in fact be a master 'negative', intended for the reproduction of further copies.

OK, so that's what it is (and I am pretty sure about this) --- but I'm afraid I don't know what the correct way to express this in appropriate technical language is in English.

But I suspect with those keywords, you should get somewhere on Google.

Gary, just a word of warning:

Given the format of the original sentence, I would read this as being 'a drawing on...' --- don't forget that 'calque' can be both the material, and a drawing in that form.

As it says 'sous forme de...' rather than 'sur...', I think you need to acknowledge the nicety of meaning there; they are asking that thes drawings be supplied in a specific format, instead of the now almost ubiquitous CAD files.

tracing paper

bearing in mind that one has to present to the supliers all the tolerances and sketches, I believe it refferes to presenting the suppliers with drawings therefore one would use "tracing paper".

Tracing paper is used for copying models, drawing, technical drawings

Carbon paper is thin paper coated with a mixture of wax and pigment, that is used between two sheets of ordinary paper to make one or more copies of an original document.

Used mostly for invoices, receipts etc...administration documents- prevents people from having to write the same documents more than one time.

tracing paper
A paper used for duplicating drawings, figures, etc. It may be either a translucent, greaseproof paper, or a bond or manifold paper treated chemically or oiled so as to increase its transparency. It is produced from cotton fiber, chemical wood pulps, or combinations thereof, in basis weights ranging from 7 1/4 to 16 pounds (17 X 22—500). Important properties include proper receptivity to drawing ink and transparency, so that prints from the tracings can be made.

disagree Tony M : Awana, I'm afraid your answer is a gross over-simplification of what is a quite complicated term (see my own answer) // OF COURSE! I was just trying to suggest that conf. 5 ought to be used with some caution, for clear-cut cases

Drafting film

"Polydraw" is a matt surface polyester drafting film with an exceptional degree of dimensional stability available in 75micron double matt.

(my husband uses it all the time at work)
