It is imperfect, it always will. It is translation without thinking.
Still, there are circumstances where it can be valuable. Translators, if they so wish, can profit, too, if they work in a smart way.
Please don't put a human face on machine translation. This is rather stupid and it hurts us all. If you choose to do post-editing (TAUS terminology), do what you are expected to do.
