Why "Normally"? Nov 2, 2021

'If you listen to music normally, while translating, what kind of music do you listen to?'

More succinct.

"If you listen to music while translating, what kind of music do you listen to?"

Keith Jarrett, silence and the sound of translation Nov 3, 2021

For creative work, something like Keith Jarrett's piano live recordings.

Or plain silence with Alpine noise-reduction earplugs, which I also use for sleep.

This is only for the first draft. On final stages, I usually read myself aloud. When everything clicks, it is music to my ears

If you listen to music normally: i.e. in a standard manner, as opposed to through a length of PVC piping or eavesdropping on the old lady upstairs tuned in to Household Choice Saskatchewan.

You are right Nov 3, 2021

Yes, you are right, I forgot the part "if you are used to listening" -:)

Though my version was more a proposition.
Just a shortened version of the original long and somewhat clumsy sentence.

Cheers
