我还未成为正式的会员，但通过近半年的观察，在下发现proz上英汉译者成千上万，而翻译业务张贴栏内每月很少会多于30份业务。我的问题是：如果交上一年的会员费，能否在一年内收回成本？万望诸位前辈不吝赐教，在下感激不尽。

I have been around Proz.com for 3 to 4 years, had done many projects posted here, but just recently become a paid member. $125 is a big money for the translators in China (it is about 1000 yuan now). Why do not build your credit and reputation first, then become a paid member to compete with other paid and unpaid member?
But if you have already had a good reputation and big client pool, go ahead join the party.

呵呵，其实还是有点不明白。Reputation originates from dealing with clients and handling business. A non-member's chance of landing a project is pretty pretty slim amid vicious competition. It's a miracle to do "many projects posted here, but just recently become a paid member". Vous avez vraiment une bonne chance!

不知道您的地区的情况。有的人做一件事是出于热爱，如对自己的专业的执着。这样的好处在于做决定比较容易，即不管发生什么事情都沿着专业做下去。以不变应万变。

我自己觉得，翻译和编程序都是劳动密集的工作。喜欢翻译或许可能培养编程序的兴趣?

Emanuel Derman在他的书“My Life as a Quant”中说：“... if you can program, you can always add value. If you can't, you have to be a lot smarter to earn your keep.” 供您参考。
