I will try to find out how 'pidgin' is translated into Chinese for these three Melanesian Pidgin languages Tok Pisin (Papua New Guinea), Bislama (Vanuatu) and Pijin (Solomon Islands), just for comparison. Also Torres Strait Creole.

Here it can be seen that these are important languages in those three countries (it would be nice of Proz.com had a separate category for Melanesian Pidgin, as a language? - could we suggest it?)

在波士頓，我大膽把Haitian Creole 和Cape Verdian Creole分別譯成海地土語及佛德角土語。不知各位意見如何？Pidgin English香港人稱為『咸水英文』這大概是因在海邊蛋家人與來華的英人溝通而傳入香港的。

我刚刚把以前上学时的脚踩《语言学概论》找出来，上面是这样解释的：

Creole 到底是什麼呢？在地的與外來的混合之後，所產生的一切都可以稱為 creole。比方說，飲食習慣雜入了外來民族的烹飪方式，用的材料卻是本地的，那就成了 creole dishes。在地人種與外來人種的混合也可以是 creole。在地語言受到外來語言的影響，尤其是外來語言成為強勢語言時，在地人說得不標準的語言於是成為 creole。比方說，西非的獅子山國原本受到英國統治，英國把解放後的非裔奴隸放到這個國家來，那些非裔奴隸由於出身不同的非洲國家，所以溝通的語言只能是英語，但與在地語言融合，成了一種奇特的英語，稱為 Krio，甚至這些被解放的奴隸也被原本在地的人稱為 Krios。不習慣這種英語的人，聽起來會覺得比中國的洋涇濱更難懂。事實上，在澳洲和新西蘭的英語，多多少少也染上一些當地土著民族語言的色彩，澳洲和新西蘭的白人或許還聽得懂，咱們外地人可要搔破頭皮，往往還是聽不懂。那種語言也是 creole。

我想 Pidgin English 抑或是 Pidgin some other languages 肯定还存在着，譬如说在秀水街。我虽然没有去过那里，但猜想在那里纯正英语未必人人要说的。

在中俄边境贸易中，是否存在着 Pidgin Russian？我想有的。

在我们这里则可以听到 Pidgin Chinese/Arabic/Farsi) 譬如说：这小伙子真百乐凯太；拿捏贴散素埃迪该。。。等等。后一个例子中除了“拿”和“散”是汉语外，就是 Farsi 和 Arabic。

我想 Pidgin 还是有存在的需要吧。
