有说，老舍先生在谈到翻译他的作品中，最满意的莫过于艺术家英若诚先生翻译的《茶馆》。老舍先生认为英若诚是吃透了《茶馆》中各人物派别的言与行。由于对作品深透地了解，在翻译中对《茶馆》总体意思贯穿全剧，尊重原著，堪称老舍先生最为満意的一夲译本。

英若诚（1929年6月21日－2003年12月27日）本是满族人，但他出生于北京。《茶馆》里随处可拾的北方方言口语，对他来说理解和翻译处理上想必占了很大优势。可以想象，一个中国南方出生长大的译者，在翻译《茶馆》这样的文学作品时所需花费的功夫和效果可能会是另一番景象吧。。。
