Discussion

Amy Lesiewicz Dec 4, 2012:
British vs. American "Pitch" is British; "playing field" is American. I suspect many Americans wouldn't understand the word "pitch" in this context unless they follow European football (soccer). In America, even a soccer/football field is usually called "field".

main field and track

If I understand спортивное ядро correctly, it's not just the field. It's the field and the surrounding track (with related infrastructure), taken as a unit.

In English, I think this is usually called the "main field and track" in a stadium. See, for example, a report on a high school stadium where the "main field and track" were damaged by the recent storm, as well as other examples of this phrase that came up in the following search:

Yes, this term is used in GB. But with the multitude of options provided, it wouldn't be difficult for the asker to make his final choice (depending on the targe audience). Thank you for your comment!

Не совсем согласен с предложенными вариантами: и pitch, и the field of play означают просто "игровое поле", без дополнительной инфраструктуры, а это и беговые дорожки, и снаряды для легкой атлетики и т.д.
