Portuguese term

As artérias carótidas estão pérvias

Portuguese to English Medical Medical: Cardiology
Does anybody know what this term "pérvias" mean?? I've searched everywhere but I can't find anything! It's a clinical report. It doesn't seem to be a spelling mistake because the term is repeated in another paragraph. Thank you for your help!
