Italian term

scaglie di beola

Italian to English Tech/Engineering Surveying landscape gardening, walls
I "intuit" that these are sort of irregular flat "flakes" of stone used for dry stone walls - can anyone suggest a professional correct translation for this? Many thanks

"Scaglie di beola sono state utilizzate anche per le murature più alte che fiancheggiano e connotano il percorso"
Proposed translations (English)

also known as "bevola" in Italian ...
Valeria Faber Feb 18, 2008:
maybe *beola tiles*, but I'm not sure

Hi Susan, I found this: **Beola it a rock which divides up easily, and is adaptable to being riven, permitting quarrying activity of an industrial nature for the production of slabs.

I happened to see a leaflet by a beola manufacturer: they used sheet to describe exactly what you mean.
Consider it!

Thank you for your prompt reply, Susan! However, they use "scaglie" because the rocks are not regular in shape. Maybe "sheets" are too squared! Anyway we'll see other suggestions from our colleagues...
Note from asker:
Thanks Paola but I doubt that sheet would translate "scaglie". However I'm interested to see that beola appears to be beola in English too. Don't know how far I trust the translation into English of your beola manufacturer's brochure, though! Will wait for more suggestions...
