and being closed in is not so bad...
just a suggestion;
and I would use irene's "not so bad after all' at the end.
or: and being closed up ...

and then the closed in space/enclosure is not so/as bad
Rather difficult with poems as with songs

stuffiness is not so bad after all
From what I understand, (s)he enjoys smelling other people's BO, which bring him/her back to a primordial dimension...
I think the writer is playing with the word "chiuso" as in "closed / narrow space" and "odore di chiuso" (stale air, which (s)he's breathing on the train).
I think that the word "stuffy", which evokes the smell of a place that is kept closed anyway, could convey both meanings.
Good luck!

... On second thought, I've thought about another way of rendering it; if you think that (s)he wanted to step out of the train and then changed her mind, you might consider this:
"being inside was not that bad after all".
Well, that's all for tonight!

I've given it some more thought and realised that, if "sotto" is "underground", the smells mentioned here do not only belong to people, as it were, but also to the actual atmosphere you breathe underground (the walls, ect), where the remains of our ancient cities (and of our ancestors) lie. Also, caves were the first dwellings of the human race. Well, again, good luck!

alle 8 precise dopo il bacio frettoloso.
Viene voglia di uscire con gli occhi,
la prossima fermata è uguale alla successiva
e il frastuono dei passi tormenta la superficie dell’asfalto.
Sotto gli odori ti riconducono all’origine
e il chiuso non è poi così male.
