Italian term

armi tipo guerra

Weapons of war and of the war type? "of the war type" doesn't get a lot of Ghits.

TIA (and don't shoot ...).

Discussion

Michael Korovkin Dec 26, 2009:
Hi! It's all fine and the acronym SALW exists and is widely used. However, it applies to both military- and non–military-grade weapons. That is, SALW's can be tipo guerra e non. For example, target pistols, hunting rifles and unrifled shotguns are all SALW's. Moreover – and just in case you don't know – "sales to and detention by private persons" of semi–automatic weapons, including carbines and high-power rifles, in Italy is permitted by law, while "armi tipo guerra" are NOT permitted. So, you can keep an M16 with the loading mech. converted to the serial single–shot action (semi-automatic) but not the fully automatic one, because then it's a military-grade SALW. You've translated "Domare la Bisbetica" as "Taming of the Woman". Truman Capote escluso, bisbetiche sono donne, è vero; but not all women are shrews... at least one tends to hold this conviction dear, often against all evidence and hope. Ergo, you chose the wrong suggestion... all google references notwithstanding (or perhaps thanks to?).

small arms and light weapons (SALW)

The term is often shortened to ‘small arms’ or ‘SALW’

guerra”. L’estrema ampiezza della formulazione
legislativa vi farebbe rientrare anche talune o
molte delle arme non letali. Se poi, esistendo le
dette caratteristiche, l’arma inabilitante fosse
detenuta regolarmente “per impiego bellico”,
sarebbe arma da guerra ad ogni effetto

EU joint action on small arms and light weapons (1)
The EU adopted a joint action on small arms on 17 December 1998.
The joint action proposes objectives, principles and measures combating
the destabilising accumulation and spread of small arms, contributing towards the reduction of existing accumulations of these weapons to levels consistent with countries’ legitimate security needs, and helping to solve the problems caused by such accumulations.

19 mins

war-like weapons

since they make a distinction between "armi da guerra" and "armitipo guerra", I guess you can use "war weapons" and "war-like weapons"

You're right. I have a cold + toothache + am trying to work on a complicated translation, a lethal combination that impedes me from giving correct answers.
Note from asker:
Tom. The dead arose and appeared to many. Welcome back, old son. NOw, as to your point, I would say no, because the first one is weapons of war and the second one is "tipo guerra".
