Italian term

allungamento a rottura

Italian to English Tech/Engineering Metallurgy / Casting steel
Refers to the properties of steel suitable for a certain machine. I've looked at similar archive entries, and wonder if "elongation to break(age)" is the exact term, or is "elongation to failure" more appropriate?

I found this interesting site:

\"Allungamento a rottura A=200 mm minimo
-

I would use: ELONGATION AT BREAK

Ultimate elongation

that's what Marolli says...

--------------------------------------------------

\"The ultimate elongation of a plastic is the percentage increase in length that occurs before it breaks under tension. Ultimate elongation values of several hundred percent are common for elastomers and film/packaging polyolefins. Rigid plastics, especially fiber reinforced ones, often exhibit values under 5%. The combination of high ultimate tensile strength and high elongation leads to materials of high toughness.\"

Ultimate elongation would therefore be the distance the material stretches before it breaks. Elongation is usually reported in percent (of the original length).

elongation after fracture

Dal sito della MOS (Metal Suppliers)

http://www.suppliersonline.com/
In tensile testing, the increase in the gauge length measured after fracture of the specimen within the gauge length and usually expressed as a percentage of the original gauge length.

classifica

per favore non mi scegliere!
hai già ricevuto sufficienti risposte, volevo solo fare questa classifica (tanto non riuscivo a dormire:-)

possibile traduzione / nr. di hit su Google / spiegazione del termine

1) elongation to break / 807 / The amount a tape has stretched lengthwise at the point of breaking. It is expressed as a percentage of the original unstretched length.

2) elongation to fracture / 142 / A measure of ductility, since this is the amount of permanent plastic stretch a material undergoes prior to failure in a tension test. The most common measure of ductility

3) elongation to rupture / 17 / no explanation

4) elongation at break / 18500 (elongation at break + co.uk 1030) / The increase in length when the last component of the specimen breaks.

5) elongation at rupture / 393 / See ELONGATION AT BREAK.

6) elongation at fracture / 285 / permanent percentage deformation remaining at fracture, ductile material has a larger elongation at fracture than does brittle material

7) ultimate elongation / 4830 (ultimate elongation + co.uk 154) / "Alternate term for elongation of material at rupture under tensile loading."

8) Elongation after Fracture / 207 / % Total Elongation after Fracture (A). .... There is usually some rebound when the test piece fractures, such that the elongation at fracture can be quite different from the elongation after fracture.

definizione interessante:
Elastomer:
A material that has high elongation properties. Most packaging elastomers are synthetic polymers, except for natural rubber. Elongation the difference in length, expressed as a percentage of the original length, when a plastic specimen is subjected to a tensile load. Elongation at yield is the elongation at the point at which the specimen will not return to its original dimensions. ****Elongation at break, or ultimate elongation, is the elongation at fracture***

Allungamento a rottura
- In una prova di trazione, è l'allungamento fino alla rottura
- Differenza % tra lunghezza iniziale e lunghezza al momento della rottura, dopo trazione
