To some extent it depends on who was doing this, but ordinary people would make offerings. Depending on the target reader you could use either the above or
'..offerings and bequeath money for their patron saints'.
It's a rather strange wording as it would usually be for prayers/masses to be offered to the saint or to maintain the saint's chapel/statue

this can ( and in my view does in this context) mean "offerings" - see eg Collins Sansoni dictionary
