I found assessore as Borough Council Clerk, and there is another, similar translation in Kudoz. But "assessore al commercio"?

Director of Business Support and Development
I have taken this from the organogram of my local council in the UK. Strictly speaking, our Director is a paid employee whereas an Assessore is an elected councillor, (appointed to the job by the Sindaco I believe). Our nearest equivalent, though much less hands-on, would be "Chair of the Business Support and Development Committee".

head of (the department of) trade and commerce
Here in Sicily, it works like this: the heads of departments are regional, provincial or local authority.
So I work for a gentleman who was the head of the Regional department of health. He likes to call himself the minister of health...
Otherwise, provincial head of trade and commerce, or head of local trade and commerce would be my suggestion.
