Italian term

da un quarto ciascuno

Italian to English Tech/Engineering Engineering (general)
Part of a specification dealling with works on a gasholder. The whole sentence is:
I think spicchi in this context are panels, but I cannot work out the removal sequence at all.

NE/SW or NW/SE quadrants

I'm not proposing a translation, of course, only an answer your question.

first change 2 diagonally opposed panels (e.g. those in the NE / SW quadrants) then the other 2... Nothing more complicate than this. It's a square divided into 4 smaller squares (or maybe a rectangle divided into 4 smaller rectangles.

BTW, the source should read "...rimozione di metà..." - I suppose :-)

In fact I was hasty in imagining the geometry of this - I thought of a square flat rooftop because of "a scacchi", but "spicchi" might suggest other geometrical forms (e.g. triangles or quadrants for a flat roof, triangles for a piramidal one...)

It al doesn't have a serious bearing, IMHO, on the fact that panels are to be removed in pairs, each pair composed of 2 opposing (not adiacent) panels.
Peer comment(s):

explanation

Removal sequence:
imagine you see the roof from the top: you have 4 triangles joint at the top. These triangles are your "spicchi". Each triangle corresponds to a quarter of the entire cover, so when removing you have to remove simultaneously the two opposite triangles (so that one is missing, the other remains there, another missing, another there... = modalità di scacchi, like blacks and whites on the chessboard...)

That's how I understand it

I agree with the note posted by Alfredo: the thing is, the 2 not adiacent panels are to be removed together, whatever their form may be (maybe ask the client for drawings or explanation...). In order to stick to the question, I think we all agree that the panels correspont to a quarter each...
Peer comment(s):
