Italian term

antone di legno

Italian to English Tech/Engineering Construction / Civil Engineering Wall construction
I am translating a questionnaire about workers' skills and abilities. A procedure which those filling in the questionnaire must say they are able to execute is the follwing. Under the title
"preperazione degli Antoni:
1) Per realizzare il cassero si devono preparare 4 antoni di legno (vedi foto). Le è capitato di realizzare questa operazione in cantiere?

What exactly are Antoni di legno? Antoni does not seem to be a standard word-from the picture provided with the text I deduce that an antone di legno is a block of wood-but has anyone a more specific/technical translation?
Many thanks for all suggestions

some examples of antoni (in this case used as shutters, but the logic is the same):

anta= shutter; panel
I have been working in construction for over 15 years and build my own houses. To prepare this cassero you must bury 4 pillars to hold the palanche(many large planks of wood, depending on length and height),you never gave the other text to work by exclusio
ivanamdb Apr 15, 2008:
thanks Yorick! just something I forgot to put about an "anta" - for example "anta dell'armadio" = the wardrobe door. ante are always flat, i.e. panels (don't trust things like Babylon, go for the monolingual dictionaries ;-)
Gad Kohenov Apr 14, 2008:
Found in Babylon:
anta
N F
square pilasters/columns/pillars (pl.)

do you have the rest of the list?

given that 4 "ante" are used to build a "cassero", which is:
armatura di ferro o cemento armato che consente di innalzare fondazioni in presenza d'acqua | (non com.) cassaforma.
I would translate them as panel - as an anta is a flat, broad piece of wood, the one you would buy in B&Q to build a shelf or a box or whatever.
given that it is an "antona" I would say a large panel.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I think I viewed the picture wrongly and thought that the supporting blocks of wood were the antoni di legno. I follow your logic Ivan, and I think you are right, even though the other solution has two persons' backing. Your point about the need for four of these things in building the formwork is very convincing: Also antoni di legno used to refer to panels in a number of texts in the internet , so I'll go for your solution. Many thanks to everyone."
