Italian term

film di denuncia

Italian to English Art/Literary Cinema, Film, TV, Drama film genre
Is there any accepted way of saying this? You can have a 'protest song', but somehow a 'protest film' just doesn't sound right to me, and nothing else springs to mind.

context:

Thanks for any help, and Happy Easter everyone!

Discussion

oh, and I changed movie to film because I prefer it, especially for UK English text, and because it got appreciably more ghits, but obviously both work

protest movie

As far as I can see, it's quite used (http://www.google.it/search?hl=it&q="protest movie"&meta=)
Peer comment(s):

agree Boadicea (X) : protest movie also sounds right to me...

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "thanks Manuela; as it turns out, this was right after all, despite my misgivings!"

docufilm

i've often heard this new term to indicate both a film that is also a documentary (thus reporting on some serious issue)
Peer comment(s):

disagree Manuela Dal Castello : non necessariamente un film di protesta è un docufilm... "Convoy trincea d'asfalto" è considerato un film di protesta ma non ha niente a che fare con i documentari

disagree solejnicz : This does not express the critical side of the film.

denouncing film

I think you can just translate this literally.
Example sentence:

The Drowned Men is not an informative, denouncing film in the sense that it withholds much of the background about the story

Peer comment(s):

neutral Oliver Lawrence : doesn't sound good to a native ear

issue movie

An alternative suggestion
Example sentence:

"Ultimately this is a sharp-focus issue movie, decrying intolerance as it explores the effects of labeling, the complexity of fetishizing, and the differences between business and crime. "

No problem. My pleasure. It's all a lot of laughs at any rate, no?
Note from asker:
thanks Cedric. The reason I went for Manuela's in the end was that exposé gave me the idea of investigative journalism, or 'revealing', i.e. 'exposing' some hidden and uncomfortable truth. In my context the point was that the film is condemning known behaviour rather than exposing something hidden
yeah, like a sort of mental coffee break! Cheers

Thank you
agree Andrew Campbell : I think this is the best translation of the Italian. If you cross check the term (through google if nothing else) with films like Insider, F. 911, Supersize me, All the Pres.' Men, it kicks up more than the others
