French term

flasher

French to English Other Slang online dating service
From an online dating service - this word is used all over. Customer had already translated it as "flash" which I obviously don't want to use (context is gay).

Examples :
Members can send a "flash" when they see a profile they like
ajouter à mes flashs
consulter mes flashs
ils ont flashé sur moi
envoyer un flash
je veux être prévenu lorsqu'un membre flashe sur moi

The only thing I have come up with so far is "crush" but I don't think "send a crush" sounds right.

I found a similar online service where members can send a "nudge" to other members as a way of saying "I like you", but this doesn't feel right either.

Any other ideas for US English welcome...

Why not try this on the English -> English pair. You may find a wider audience.

Thanks Peter ;-) (well, no, I'd better change that to :-) )
agree Tony M : Yes, though do note that certain sites use both, and 'clin d'œil' is often used (naturally!) for 'wink' on FR sites.

Thanks Tony !

to poke

Although you may also feel that this sounds odd (a bit like 'to nudge') it is the term used all the time on 'Facebook' - the very popular site for friends/contacts etc in the sort of context where 'flasher' is appearing in French. The Internet almost seems to be developing a language of its own...!
Peer comment(s):

neutral Tony M : OK on Facebook, perhaps — but I think I'd steer clear of it on a gay dating site!!!

Yes - that's a fair point...!
