Michael; thanks for the explanation, dosage=assay ok or strength IOW the amount of active substance contained, however assay for me can only be used in the context of a test, and which 'dosage' the test uses; for other uses the English 'dosage' is used...
Michael Barnett Feb 15, 2008:
Dr. Jones, it is cow's-milk-protein. The "cow's-milk" modifies protein. Moreover it is an IgE antibody, not an IgE anti-protein. Additionally, in English, ASSAY is the correct term, not dosage. Manu's version is the incorrect one.

'anti cow's milk + noun ? Ungrammatical to say the least, manu's version is the correct one...
Michael Barnett Feb 15, 2008:
IMO, the use of the English word "dosage" is totally inappropriate in this context.
Rachel Fell (asker) Feb 14, 2008:
"of the specific cow’s milk anti-protein IgE dosage" - ? (had dosage originally)
Rachel Fell (asker) Feb 14, 2008:
Yes, probably, having doubts about that in the context, though it's more about the rest of it...;-)

I would keep the word dosage

assay positive for anti-cow's milk protein specific IgE

phd-translator is right on all counts. I just changed the wording around to make it sound more natural in English.

One could also append "antibodies" after IgE, but it is understood.

positive assay of specific anti-cow's milk IgE antibodies

"Dosage" en français et en anglais sont de faux-amis; "dosage" (FR) signifie "assay", alors que "dosage" (EN) signifie "posologie". Les IgE sont une classe d'anticorps, qui sont ici dirigés spécifiquement contre les protéines du lait de vache. Le dosage de ces anticorps a donné un résultat positif.

Les antigènes sont souvent de nature protéique : l'ellipse du mot "protein" en anglais n'enlève rien à la clarté de la phrase.
