stretched topline
Hello,
I think they are talking about a horse being "étendu dans son dessus", which, I believe, means that the horse has a stretched topline. I've never seen "étendu" (dans son dessus), but I think it's the same thing.
In more advanced stages of collection, the horse has an extremely shortened underline and a rounded, stretched topline with an overall shortened frame from ...

I hope this helps.

Note from asker:
Thanks Matthew. This is a term I've been struggling with quite some time now, and I've frequently replaced it with 'Topline'. However, now I've read the French definition of topline I wonder at how accurate I've been, because topline would almost certainly include the part of the horse that runs from the poll to the withers (neck). I've also used 'good length of back' in the past, but I'm not convinced that's all that accurate either. Reasuring that someone's thinking along the same lines as me though! |
Sorry, it's a bit early! I meant 'the French definition of étendu' |

slender
A slim.....with straight.....
Note from asker:
I don't think so, because I know plenty of horses who are described as having 'étendu' who are quite chunky. |
