French term

au recours à leur bande passante

French to English Tech/Engineering Internet, e-Commerce information technology
Context from an ISP internet service provider point of view:

Ici aussi c'est la proximité du serveur avec nos utilisateurs qui est intéressante. Cette proximité réduit les temps de téléchargement et rend donc l'accès à ces archives plus rapide. C'est aussi une manière de diminuer la nécessité de nos utilisateurs au recours à leur bande passante de type 'commercial'.

Afraid I don't exactly get the right meaning of this sentence. Help me out, thanks.

It is one way to reduce our users' need to resort to a "commercial" bandwidth

agree Tom Bishop : The source text does seem to be badly written and this interpretation is technically logical.

agree fcl : ... to _their_ commercial bandwith. Maybe two connection speeds available: a cheap one with a narrow bandwith, and a "commercial" one, more expensive, and with a broad bandwith.

neutral GILLES MEUNIER : bande passante c'est 'bandwidth'

disagree Tom Bishop : "bande passante" is bandwidth and has nothing to do with scrolling banners. What would be the technical advantage of scrolling banners if download times were poor? They would simply aggravate the situation.
