Change log

May 13, 2005 03:55: Carmen Schultz changed "Level" from "Non-PRO" to "PRO"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

PRO (2): RHELLER, Carmen Schultz

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

Non-ProZ.com May 13, 2005:
Sarah: not a clue - sounded just like a caf au lait:-)
Rita: a context: two guys went for a cup of "caf acadien" in a nearby bar... that's it
RHELLER May 12, 2005:
2 words without a sentence or an explanation is insufficient.
sarahl (X) May 12, 2005:
where did the milk come from? just curious...

Cajun Coffee (café au lait style)

If it's Cajun Coffee, the kind served in New Orleans and other parts of Louisiana, it's a French roast coffee bean (has chicory in the blend) and is probably prepared café au lait style.
The word Cajun comes from Acadian (acadien in French).

Note: To solve the mystery posed by other colleagues in this Kudoz question, there are people living in both Canada and the US whose forefathers were the Acadians. The Acadians did not all stay in one place; the descendants are strewn about in both Canada, some parts of East Coast and Louisiana. In fact the cuisine from Louisiana is known as Cajun French Cuisine. So I am surmising Acadian Coffee is from Louisiana Cajun.
Webster\'s defines Cajun as: A member of a group of people in southern Louisiana desdended from the French exiles from Acadia.
Acadian is defined as: 1) One of the early French settlers of Acadia or their descendants. 2) A dialect of French spoken by the Acadians.

café acadien

I'd be pretty sure it was the actual building. There's 3,700 hits on Google and the first two pages are all for cafés you sit in rather than ones you drink. How you translate of course depends on the context.

Cheers

It would thus be a café (in the sense of coffeehouse) either held by Acadians or situated in the region called Acadia
Peer comment(s):

neutral RHELLER : I went to the website and could not find maine - but rather Canada!; actually Louisiana is the Cajun capital in the U.S. - but Maine was inhabited by French speakers 400 yrs ago :-)
