"la côte offre une succession de conches et de rochers ponctués de carrelets"
None of the typical translations seem to fit ie plaice (fish), tessera (a type of tile), a large needle etc

I believe that "carrelet" is used to refer to the fishing huts found, for example, in Charente-Maritime and in the Loire estuary.
However, strictly speaking, and as far as I can tell from my research (I too have been needing to translate this), a "carrelet" actually refers to the square net that hangs from these huts on stilts. It is dipped into the water to catch fish, thus "dip-net" fishing.
The huts are actually called "pêcheries".
I think that it depends to what extent you need to be precise and technical.
