: in my experience, "pêche à pied" is not restricted to shellfish, it also includes anything you may find trapped in the rocks or hiding in the sand: flatfish, dogfish, etc.

: and have the picture postcard to prove it! But I think it also includes shrimping. However, I don't think we have one English word for gathering cockles, mussels, shrimps, etc. Whatever, it's what people do with shrimping nets and/or a bucket of sea water
