All of your answers together have helped me, unfortunately in the text there are no other details to help with the translation but it seems to be talking about the harmonising of the maximum permissible level of pesticides in drinking water. This might help: "the European Union directive on drinking water quality (98 / 83 / CE) established a maximum permissible concentration for pesticides of 0.1 mg / l for individual and 0.5 mg / l for total pesticides."

It means the single value (presumably the maximum allowable value) for pesticides, regardless of which pesticides are involved. Michele's reference might help. Presumably we're meant to put it together from the bits she provided!

More information The whole sentence is ' Cette directive traite de la valeur limite de la concerntration de plomb dans l'eau, de la valuer limite pour les nitrites, des risques d'entraves � la circulation de l'eau vendue en bouteille et de la valeur uniqeu indiff�renci�e pour les pesticides.

The title of the paragraph is climatic changes and the stratgy on water and the paragraph discusses the reaction of the European Environment Conseil to EU directives. Does that help?
