Katsy, I can't get the link to work, but in any case, I already mentioned the character in "Le Petit Prince" in my answer!
katsy Oct 25, 2007:
reading your previous question I get the impression that your text deals with those who create/design street and urban lighting (is that so???) . In which case lamplighter would be fine...
katsy Oct 25, 2007:
See this link: http://www.dialogus2.org/EXU/uneramification.html. It doesn't give me any ideas for a translation other than lamplighter, but it could refer to a character in 'Le Petit Prince'.
american atlas (asker) Oct 25, 2007:
Hi,
Unfortunately I do not have much more context....
It is in an environmental context and they placed that sentence in the middle of it....I do believe that the allumeurs de réverbères are the poets of the night.
However I wonder if there is not a game of words in there.....that is why I am not totally convinced I can use the lamplighters. .. Help :-(
Carol Gullidge Oct 25, 2007:
Hi: can you provide a little more context - i.e., what is the connection with "Environment and Ecology"? And does "ces poètes de la nuit" refer to the descendants or the "allumeurs de réverbères"? This might help with the interpretation...

Note from asker:

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I guess I'll stick to lamplighters. It does refer later on to the Little Prince of Saint Ex.... But after reading all notes, I think this should be the best answer for this text. I am not sure Philantropist would go here. I am lacking more context too. Many thanks to all of you, especially that late at night! "

There's also the famous "allumeur..." in "Le Petit prince", who carried on lighting the lamps even though his job was getting increasingly difficult, simply because that was his duty...

PS, my first thought (before finding that definition) was "visionaries" or "enlightened people", but I think that connection is perhaps too facile...

neutral katsy : sorry, I was typing at the same time as you I think. Or, given your response, had a moment of blindness - so sorry again. But reading the 2 qus, cd it not just be a lyrical description of designers of street lights??

hard to know, but I already mentioned the character in "Le Petit Prince"/your response had to be AFTER my answer was posted!!//But, it's hard to know what is being referred to, except we do know it has to square with "poètes de la nuit"
