Among all the many 'oil deflectors' in my TMs, I found just one occurrence of this term, from a previous translator. Now I don't know if their terminology research was better than mine or not — but it seems that as they used a non-obvious/literal term, they might have had some special reason for doing so — so I suggest this might at least be an avenue for further research!

What ARE you talking about? This is neither "slavish' nor "dictionary"!! It is technical jargon as used in the industry — though it may or may not apply here.
