French term

avec ou sans maintien

French to English Tech/Engineering Electronics / Elect Eng
From a document on a dimmer device for internal halogen lighting:

"Suivant la configuration choisie, il sera possible de contrôler les 2 entrées via les 2 interrupteurs avec ou sans maintien."

I can't work out whether the 'avec ou sans maintien' part refers to the 'interrupteurs' (which was my initial impression but I can't find anything to back this up) or whether the '2 entrées' can be controlled 'avec ou sans maintien'. In this case, how would this be translated into English (UK)?

Many TIA

Vicky

latching or non latching

I seem to remember something similar coming up before. Since this is referring to switches, they can either be on (or off) continuously, ie latching, or on/off momentarily, as in a bell-push.

with or without holding/continuous pressure

maintien means maintenance, which doesn't make sense to me in the context given, so i assume they are referring to holding/pressing continuously.
