French term

7e degré

French to English Other Education / Pedagogy certificate of grades
Salut!

This appears on a Swiss school report as follows:

Au terme du 7e degré de la voie secondaire de baccalauréat (VSB), la conférence des maîtres de l’établissement primaire et secondaire de [place name] a examiné les compétences dont a fait prevue l’élève et décide de sa promotion au 8e degré de la voie secondaire de baccalauréat (VSB).

I am not sure if this means the 7th year or not.

Merci d'avance!

7th year

In the wikipedia article explaining the Swiss education system (which appears to include a wide variety of sub-systems which vary by canton), the word "degré" is used in the tables to indicate how many years a given educational cycle involves.

The Swiss federal statistics article also uses the term to indicate an educational year, in the formulation "Degré primaire 1-2". It seems that rather than specifying "grades" (US) or "years" (UK), they specify the "degree" being earned, followed by the age of most students at a given stage of the degree (so, Degré primaire 1-2 = infant school for 1-2 year olds, which is an obligatory part of primary school in certain cantons but not in others).

I think this is correct, after finding this: https://www.vd.ch/fileadmin/user_upload/organisation/dfj/sg-dfj/fichiers_pdf/DGEO_EVALUATION_EN_2011.pdf
Good points!
Peer comment(s):

disagree Emma Page : The English in that source is poor, they use both "grade" and "class" referring to the 7th year, and there are other examples of "translationese" grammar.
