yes thank you Nikki. I was in a rush and overlooked this.

ProZ glossary ProZ glosary is not perfect, but this term has come up on a number of occasions. There are a handful of entries that would have helped here. When you need a term quickly, then it can be very helpful.
I have a former colleague (in a sail-loft) who set up a school for osteopaths in Nantes. He first trained as a doctor and then became an osteopath after a number of years in sailmaking. And yes, student osteopaths are required to do on-call duty. ;-)

Cassandra Delacote (asker) Dec 11, 2017:
Thank you so much for all these explanations!
Andrew Mason Dec 11, 2017:
Dear Cassandra, I don't have experience of osteopaths, but for doctors students are 'cannon- fodder' and certainly have to their share (disproportionate usually) of the on-call duties. I suspect that for osteopaths, the likelihood of real emergencies is low and so they would remain at home, whereas doctors would usually be on-site at the hospital, surgeons freqeuntly would be at home.
Cassandra Delacote (asker) Dec 11, 2017:
I thought that standby usually applies to the context of an employee, rather than a student?
Cassandra Delacote (asker) Dec 11, 2017:
Thank you Andrew. Would that be part of the training received to become an osteopath? because as I mentioned, this is a grade sheet.
Andrew Mason Dec 11, 2017:
Dear Cassandra You are right - the person can be at home but remains on-call for emergencies, for example.

Note from asker:
Thank you for this answer. As I mentioned to Andrew, though, could this also apply in the context of a student, not an employee?
thank you very much for the clarification!
