French to English Social Sciences Education / Pedagogy
This is a graduate engineering degree awarded by the École Centrale Paris. I can't find an English translation equivalent, even on the school's website, and am not sure whether I should try and provide one: "engineer in arts and manufacturing" sounds bizarre in English.

I'd appreciate any advice or assistance. TIA.

It's a highly prestigious qualification in the French system. Manufacturing engineer may sound more natural, but it is not accurate, and doesn't convey the meaning. No translation on English wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ecole_Centrale_Paris

Engineering degree (ingénieur des arts et manufactures)

As an engineering graduate myself, I can see that it is a very wide ranging degree" Similar in some ways to the Cambridge "Mechanical sciences"

Calling it a manufacturing engineer or industrial engineer would not do it justice.


"Education at the ECP is multidisciplinary and typically lasts three to four years. During the first two years (Tronc Commun, or "Common Trunk"), students are required to take classes in science (Mathematics, Physics, Biology); in engineering (Continuum Mechanics, Heat transfer, Digital image processing, Computer programming,...) and in social sciences (Economics, Management, foreign languages,...). After these two years of "Tronc Commun", students choose to major in a particular field, which they study for one year and a half to two years. After completing these 3 years and a half to four years of education, they receive the degree of "Ingénieur des Arts et Manufactures", more commonly called "ingénieur centralien"

However:

L’École centrale des Arts et Manufactures est fondée en 1829 sur une initiative privée par Alphonse Lavallée, homme d'affaires actionnaire du journal d'inspiration saint simonienne Le Globe et premier directeur, qui s'est entouré de trois scientifiques : Jean-Baptiste Dumas, Eugène Péclet et Théodore Olivier. Elle a pour but de former des ingénieurs généralistes pour l’industrie naissante ("les médecins des usines et des fabriques"), à une époque où les institutions supérieures forment plutôt des cadres de l'Etat. Elle devient publique en 1857 quand Lavallée la lègue à l'État français pour en assurer la perénnité. Elle attribue à partir de 1862 le titre d’ingénieur des arts et manufactures, premier titre d'ingénieur diplômé créé en France et devenu maintenant le titre d'ingénieur diplômé de l'École centrale des arts et manufactures.

I think too that "manufacturing" is probably not the case, because the term here comes from the name of the school and not a precision about the type of engineering.

It's not a CV, just a translation of the diploma itself. And no, there's no "mention" for the type of engineering. "Manufacturing engineer" sounds better than translating it literally!

Engineer's Degree

The closest equivalency to a US degree would be an Engineer's Degree. While "des arts et manufactures" does state what kind of Engineer's Degree it is, it really only states the conferring school, as one must attend very specific schools to get such a degree. One has to go to the Ecole centrale des arts et manufactures to become un ingénieur (diplômé de l'Ecole centrale) des arts et manufactures.
