In a syllabus for a microeconomics unit on "bien-être et choix collectifs", the course content covers: "l'optimum de Pareto et la théorie du bien-être social; l'analyse des effets externes; les biens collectifs purs". "Biens collectifs" seems to be "public good" but I haven't found any translation of the full phrase and am not sure if "pure public good" is correct. Can anyone enlighten me? TIA.

Strangely enough I just had the reverse with harms and moral goods. Moral goods do not refer to marchandises but LE BIEN (contraire du mal). In my opinion, LES biens collectifs (plur.) does not normally refer to le bien et le mal. If it does in this course, I wonder if it is a bad translation from the English because this is not what it usually means. Les biens always means property, never good vs bad. Les biens collectifs purs would then mean common property and I would say that purs means actual, real or strictly speaking, not including virtual, derived, by procuration etc. If it had been LE bien ~ I agree it would mean the for the benefit, wellbeing etc. of the community or the common good.
