French term

couleurs descendues

French to English Other Cosmetics, Beauty colours
This is from a description of an eyeshadow range:

"Des couleurs en demi-tons, fumées et descendues, pour un contour de l’oeil très naturel"

I've found a reference giving examples of these colours in French, but I'm none the wiser.

"...teintes descendues (gris, cyan clair, magenta clair)"

Many thanks!

muted

Just an idea, but I think it would fit with a 'natural' look.

graduated shades

Quite a few gHits Eg
XXX has introduced two new eyeshadow palettes containing graduated shades and promising 12 hours of lasting colour http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1G1-181188532.html

and:
This graduated eyeshadow palette blends 4 complementary colours in the one compact making it a fool proof way to blend colours. They are super soft with a satin like finish, come with their applicator and also have a convenient mirror on the back to help with retouching.

Thanks for your input Cervin, I think muted is best for this particular context but I've noted your answer for future translations.

Not the same subject, but...

I think "descendu" and "réduit" are synonymous. It refers to "graduated" or "muted" shades, as suggested.
