French term

recette technique en environnement de production

French to English Tech/Engineering Computers: Software
The document is an Acceptance Protocol for software products to be tested in different environments. What I can't figure out is how to neatly say the following:

"Procès-Verbal de Recette Technique en environnement de production"

Thanks!

Discussion

Tony M Feb 25, 2012:
Right! Brilliant! In that case, Stephanie, things become clearer, and the justification for the stylistically unpalatable number of qualifiers all the greater.

I stand by my original suggestion...
Stephanie Mitchel (asker) Feb 25, 2012:
Good point, Tony... ... three types of acceptance are covered in this protocol - technical, provisional and final. So I do have to make those distinctions.
Tony M Feb 25, 2012:
@ J.O. Yes, but the trouble is, that is a word-for-word literal translation, and retains the FR style, which sits awkwardly with this sort of register in EN. In fact, there is no need to add 'tests' (or in any case, probably better as 'testing') since in this sort of context, 'acceptance' is readily understood to mean the whole procedure including testing but also possibly other elements. So I would not be inclined to add an extra word that is not in the source text. However, I do feel that 'technical' could possibly be left out, depending on asker's wider context — i.e. whether this acceptance is being specifically opposed to some other form of acceptance, and whether or not the context makes it clear that this is technical acceptance (and if that is important / relevant or not).
Just Opera Feb 25, 2012:
mix of below IMO should be 'technical acceptance tests in the production environment'.

i.e. the 'recette' is a group of tests which form the report, not the report itself.

See: http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recette_(informatique)

La Recette Technique regroupe les tests suivants :

* les tests d'exploitabilité et en particulier le respect des exigences d'architecture technique
* et les tests de performance.

production environment technical acceptance

...report

Simple in EN, use the word order to help you!

This 'technical acceptance' is for the software etc. as running in the 'production environment' (i.e. not just test) — so use the latter noun to qualify the former (as we can do in EN), and I think your issue is addressed.

Often found in opposition to 'development environment acceptance', and in conjunction with 'user technical acceptance' (UTA)

If anything, I would leave out the word 'technical' — you find plenty of examples of 'production enviroment acceptance', the 'technical' is perhaps redundant, as the context ought to make it clear enough.

neutral Sandra & Kenneth Grossman : This would actually be: production environment technical acceptance report - which I think is too long//Technically correct, but stylistically there are too many qualifiers of the word "report".

Sorry, but this is precise technical terminology, that you simply can't play around with at will. 'Stylistically' has to take second place in this sort of instance, I'm afraid, for both conciseness and comprehension. Your own example is EIGHT words long!

technical acceptance report in the production environment

I would say:
Technical Acceptance Report in the production environment

Ah I see what your problem is now (I come back and there are suddenly 8 more responses!) I agree in this case with Opera and Tony's additional comments.
Note from asker:
This is what I've been using, but it seems to me that 'Report' should somehow follow 'environment' because the environment is a factor in the report, not vice versa - yet I don't know how to render it and haven't found any good examples on line.
Peer comment(s):

agree Sandra & Kenneth Grossman : report of tech acceptance in a production env (rather than in a lab env.)

neutral Tony M : But as Asker has pointed out, this implies that it is the report that is in the environment, not the acceptance, as is in fact the case.
