Discussion

Non-ProZ.com Jun 7, 2007:
It is part of a specification for a computer (CPU module) to control an industrial autoclave. I had thought of 'key information transfer' but I'm not convinced.
Martin Cassell Jun 7, 2007:
is this specialised hardware in any way -- perhaps for a content retrieval system?

data(-bearing) words / information words

area set aside for data words as opposed to application code. make sense in the context of dedicated or embedded systems such as you describe, where fixed areas of RAM are often allocated to these two uses. "data words" or "information words" would be fairly idiomatic for this field; "data-bearing words" would be more literal.

dedicated/embedded systems sometimes talk of words rather than bytes -- depends on the memory and data bus architectures they use, but it still just means units of memory.
