French term

"pour mention"

French to English Other Certificates, Diplomas, Licenses, CVs Birth Certificate
The child's name was changed and the official has written up the details then ".... Pour mention, [place]....".
Is this something like "Marginal note" or "For official use"? Many thanks in advance. Allyson

Allyson McKay Scaramella (asker) Mar 20, 2012:
For information, marginal note was confirmed by a French traducteur assermenté with experience of these kinds of documents. Second possibility "for insertion", but they're much of a muchness. Thanks to all.
writeaway Mar 15, 2012:
could even be for approval I really don't think it has anything to do with a marginal note.

I agree with writeaway I agree with Writeaway
Pour mention may be in the same family of expressions as "Pour valoir ce que de droit". They are expressions used with documents that have a certain value (attestation of certificate, etc.)
Allyson McKay Scaramella (asker) Mar 15, 2012:
Hi Writeaway,
The actual pgph is:
"Reconnu le dd.mm.yyyy
à la Mairie de city
(Tahiti) par Mr xx né le dd.mm.yyyy
à city/country
domicilié à city (Tahiti). Pour mention. Papeete
le dd.mm.yyyy. Name, title and signature of official.

Prend le nom de xx,
suivant déclaration conjointe
de changement de nom
faite devant l'officier de
l'état civil de city
(Tahiti) en date du dd.
mm.yyyy. Pour mention. Papeete le dd.mm.yyyy
Name, title and signature of official.
writeaway Mar 15, 2012:
marginal notes are often initialed. If it's followed by the location, it doesn't sound like a marginal note. Can you post the actual sentence in Fr. There is too little real context imo. Is 'en marge' actually included in the text??
mimi 254 Mar 15, 2012:
@ asker Must admit it's pure coincidence - was looking on the web for confirmation in english that "pour mention" en marge = notes marginales = marginal note. Good luck!
Allyson McKay Scaramella (asker) Mar 15, 2012:
Mimi 254,
According to your document, Actes de reconnaissance en marge are "notes marginales"

The British certificate of non-baptismal name provides confirmation in English of the exact question. How did you find that document?
Thank you!
17.08.1897 : Mention de reconnaissance en marge des actes de naissance.

Allyson McKay Scaramella (asker) Mar 15, 2012:
Marginal note featured in another birth certificate question and since no one disputed its accuracy and the part I am translating is in the margin of the original document I had thought that might be a possibility.

"For insertion" sounds more reasonable and "Rectified" might also work, I suppose, depending on how I reformulate.
Any further offers from people who have come across this before would be greatly appreciated. MTIA.
writeaway Mar 15, 2012:
Marginal note" or For official use followed by the place (and date of signing I presume??) are highly unlikely translations of 'pour mention'.
